This quote helped me finally move abroad πŸ’™

Hey Reader,

Who's started pre-celebrating Christmas? πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ I've already whipped out the Christmas playlist and Christmas tote bag and man it feels good! I feel like a lot of Americans wait until after Thanksgiving to start the Christmas shinanigans, but London is already all decked out in Christmas. Europeans don't celebrate pilgrims or giving thanks on Thanksgiving like Americans (which also means I have to work on Thanksgiving which is sad days). But the fun part is that Christmas starts a bit earlier on this side of the world! And I say... Bring. It. On. πŸŽ…πŸΌπŸŽ„πŸŽ

I can't think of a smooth way to transition after our Christmas talk... so we'll just jump on in. πŸ˜‚

I'd say the top hesitations people have about moving abroad is that they say they are afraid moving abroad will be a mistake. And that fear pretty much covers all the hesitations people typically have - from fears of loneliness, to financial stability fears, to career concerns, fear of missing family and friends, safety and security concerns and fear of the unknown. Did I miss anything?

It's very normal to have some or all of these fears about moving abroad and I did a whole podcast episode about each of these fears surrounding the greater fear that moving abroad is a mistake. Listen to the episode to dig into each of them - 55: What if moving abroad is a mistake:

My hope is that you leave the episode having some or all of your fears minimized at least a little, BUT I wanted to leave you with this which isn't completely covered in the episode:

This is what helped me finally get over my fear of taking the leap to move abroad. I told myself...

"When I move abroad, nobody is keeping me hostage. I can have my bags packed and a flight booked to move back to the U.S within a week if I wanted to."

I also heard a guy speaking on a podcast episode the other day and he said something along the lines of...

"I asked myself, if I don't like living abroad how long would it take me to get my old life back? About 2 months. Is it worth taking the risk of moving abroad and not liking it for 2 months of putting my life back together in the U.S.? Yes."

I love these reminders from me and this stranger. I've been living abroad for 5 years and he's been living abroad for at least 10 years and both of us have never needed to act on these reminders to ourselves because we've loved our lives abroad - but they helped us finally take the leap. I hope this also helps you find the courage to take the leap whenever you're ready! πŸ’™

All by best,

Jordan

Hey Reader, How has life been lately? My life has been HECTIC. In the best way though. I packed up my London flat I've lived in for 5 years, and moved into a one-bedroom flat right on the river in London (😍). I unpacked as best I could, but there's definitely boxes everywhere still and my mattress is literally on the floor like a college-aged boy while I find a bed frame. But hey ho! πŸ˜‚ Anyways, I had 2 nights in my new flat before flying to Cape Town (pics below!) for 4 weeks. And then after...

Hi Reader, Are you also in shock that we only have 2 weeks left in the year? I'm absolutely shooketh. I'm pretty sure I say this every year... but wow this year just flew by. I don't normally do this, but I actually set goals for the year back in January. I looked back at what I wrote down and I didn't hit everything perfectly on the nail, but I was pleasantly surprized. Here are a few of the goals I had set: Find and build strong female friendships Build a business that feels good and launch...
